Patient Access FAQs -Help

This information supports you in using Patient Access for booking GP appointments and requesting repeat prescriptions.

Getting Started

Patient Access is the online service linked to our EMIS system.Click here for access. Once registered you can:

  • Request repeat prescriptions
  • Book or cancel GP appointments (when enabled)
  • Update personal details
  • You may see references to seeing your full patient record - this is in England only at this time, not Northern Ireland.

Visit reception with photo ID. We will give you:

  • Linkage Key
  • Account ID
  • Organisation ID

We are also proactively sending out these details to those who were recent, active users of our previous online portal, Patient Services; although this will take some time for us to work through these.  Please speak to staff if you'd like to get set up sooner.

Your linkage Key, Account ID and Organisation ID will be found on a document we either give, or email to you.  Please complete these details promptly, as they may "time out" for security purposes, if not completed within a certain timescale.

Please note there is a reference to "NHS assured online citizen GP services"; please ignore this, it refers to England only, where a number of such portals are available, with different degrees of functionality.  In Northern Ireland, only Patient Access can be used.

Go to www.patientaccess.com and click Register. Confirm your email and password, link your account with the codes provided, complete security checks and log in.

Please ignore any references you see to "NHS login" - this is also an "England-only" functionality.

Appointments

Not all clinics are bookable online. If you cannot see the option you need, please phone reception. Through Patient Access you can book routine GP consultations.  Contact reception to book any appointments that you do not see available to select.

Log in to Patient Access, open your appointment and select Cancel. Or call reception if you cannot cancel online.

Patient Access is a programme provided by EMIS (the organisation behind our clinical system) and the only portal that has been made available to us, for this purpose, by the Department of Health at this time.  This website also features signposting towards private, non-GP services.  The practice would like to make it clear that it has no influence which services appear, and has not reviewed, nor endorsed them.  Your personal data has not been shared with these third party organisations, and will not be shared with them, unless you choose to engage with them.

Prescriptions

Log in to Patient Access, go to Medication, tick the items you need and submit the request.

Please allow 2 full working days for the practice to process your request, plus pharmacy time.

Sometimes the service may be down for maintenance. Try later or contact reception for urgent needs.
